Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious head and neck injury during Delhi Capitals’ clash against Punjab Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday (April 25, 2026) evening. In an encounter that saw both teams pile up a mountain of runs, the incident that led to a considerable interruption occurred off the third ball of the third over in PBKS’ chase.
When Priyansh Arya miscued a big hit off left-arm spinner Axar Patel, the ball soared in the direction of mid-off and Ngidi sprinted backwards in an attempt to get under the skier. The South African ended up misjudging the catch, and then fell on the floor whilst the back of his head slammed the turf. Ngidi instantly clutched his head in pain, sparking the attention of his teammates. The medical staff at the venue rushed onto the field and a stretcher was brought in even as Ngidi lay static on the turf.
