The advisory committee of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee will decide on the Congress party’s future course on political alliances in the Union Territory, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference here, the Congress leader said the committee would soon meet for an analysis on party’s poor showing in the Assembly election.
Ties with TVK
Asked whether Congress’s alliance with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu would extend to Puducherry, he said the committee would give necessary direction to the leadership on such issues.
“Our leader Rahul Gandhi was present at the swearing-in of C. Joseph Vijay as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Now, there is good equation between Mr. Gandhi and Mr. Vijay. As far as alliance with TVK in Puducherry, the leadership must decide,” he said.
The victory of AINRC and BJP in the Assembly elections, he said, does not mean that the corruption issues raised against both parties while they were heading the previous government were a mistake on the part of the Congress party. “The charges raised against Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and his cabinet Ministers by us still hold ground. People should have considered the issues raised by us when they went to vote. We will have to live with this government for the next five years,” he said.
Mr. Narayanasamy also flayed the Central government on the recent circular issued by CBSE making the three-language formula mandatory in the country. The implementation of the directive would disturb the importance given to the French language in Puducherry, he said.
“It is an attempt by the Central government to impose Hindi in the country,” the Congress leader said.
