The First Electric Nissan Juke Is A Radical Departure

• The third-generation Nissan Juke goes all-electric, built on the CMF-EV platform.
• Its design retains the unusual style of the 2024 Hyper Punk concept, so it will look like nothing else on the road.
• Customer deliveries will begin in 2027, and the model will be available only in Europe.

Nissan has unveiled a fully electric Juke that will go on sale in Europe in 2027, alongside an updated version of the existing combustion model. The initial plan was for this new electric Juke to replace the gas-burning model, but EV sales uncertainty has made Nissan reconsider that strategy.

The design of the Juke EV is quite something. It’s a toned-down version of the dramatic Hyper Punk concept unveiled in 2024, but it’s still going to be an unusual visual presence out on the road. It retains the study’s angular design that looks like a flat-shaded 3D model where each polygon has defined sharp edges.

It will be built in Nissan’s Sunderland factory on the Renault-Nissan CMF-EV platform shared with other Alliance group models, including the Leaf, which also comes out of the same UK factory. No technical details have been announced yet, but it will likely feature the same 52-kilowatt-hour and 75.1-kWh batteries as the Leaf, which give it up to 386 miles (622 km) of WLTP range.

Even though the platform supports a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup, it’s very likely that the Juke will mirror the Leaf and only offer single-motor, front-wheel drive. The most powerful Leaf variant has 215 hp and 261 lb-ft (355 Nm), giving it a claimed 0-62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 99 mph (160 km/h).

The decision to offer two very similar EVs built on the same underpinnings might seem strange, but Nissan is convinced the two models appeal to different buyers. According to Clíodhna Lyons, Nissan’s Region Vice President, Product, Brand & Marketing Strategy, ‘Juke has always stood for bold design and a willingness to challenge convention. With this third generation, we are bringing that spirit into the electric age. As our first fully electric Juke, it will help us reach new customers while expanding choice across our electrified range.’

But even with the same powertrain, the Juke will feel sportier to drive than the Leaf, which is already a sweet-handling package. How well it drove was one of the areas where the new Leaf pleasantly surprised us when we tested it in the U.S., and we can expect the Juke to be even better, although it will remain a strictly European model.
