The Delhi High Court issued notice to NDTV on Thursday (May 7, 2026) over a defamation suit filed by businessman Anil Ambani over the channel’s reportage concerning cases registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against companies linked to him.
Counsel appearing for Mr. Ambani submitted that there had been 72 “targeted publications” against him over the past eight months. It was argued that despite Mr. Ambani being distinct from the entities under investigation, his name was repeatedly highlighted whenever action was initiated against any of the companies.
The court did not pass any interim order today noting that issues concerning Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution and freedom of speech needed careful consideration. It listed the matter for further hearing in July.
Mr. Ambani has sought damages exceeding ₹2 crore in the suit, stating that any amount awarded would be donated to charitable causes.
