Charged EVs | SCHURTER acquires majority stake in China’s Biaodi, adding pyrotechnic and high-voltage EV fuses to its lineup
Swiss electronic components maker SCHURTER has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Biaodi, a China-based developer of high-voltage circuit protection products for electric vehicles and new energy applications.
Biaodi’s portfolio covers three product categories: fuses for EV onboard applications, pyrotechnic fuses for emergency disconnection in electric vehicles, and AC fuses for charging stations, energy storage systems, data centers, and wind power installations.
The pyro fuse line is the most EV-specific item on that list. Pyrotechnic fuses use a small explosive charge to physically sever the battery circuit in a crash or severe fault—faster and more decisively than a conventional fuse can interrupt current at high voltages. They’re a standard component in modern HV EV architectures.
“Biaodi fills key gaps in our circuit protection portfolio, enabling faster growth in our core markets and targeted applications, including energy, data centers, and mobility,” said Lars Brickenkamp, CEO of SCHURTER.
SCHURTER, founded in 1933 and headquartered in Lucerne, plans to scale Biaodi’s business outside China using its existing global manufacturing and distribution network.
