Tesla’s Cheapest Cybertruck Isn’t So Cheap Anymore

The Tesla Cybertruck is still here, despite some competitors going the way of the dodo, and sales sliding faster than you can say “Cyberbeast.” And while the American not-a-car company had a great idea late last month to introduce a cheaper dual-motor version of the wedge-shaped electric truck, which could have reinvigorated the model’s sales figures, it only survived for 10 days.

Now, after the eyebrow-raising marketing technique has been thrown in the retired ideas drawer, the Tesla Cybertruck Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive costs $72,235–$10,000 more than yesterday. What’s more, deliveries of the entry-level wedge-shaped electric truck are slated for 2027, making it hard to imagine that someone would wait a year to get their hands on a stripped-down version of what is arguably the world’s most controversial EV. By comparison, the mid and top trims have an estimated delivery date of 10 to 12 weeks.

As a reminder, the new dual-motor trim, which slots beneath the Premium All-Wheel Drive version, comes with a more basic interior that lacks a rear touchscreen and rear seat heaters. It also features a seven-speaker audio system without active noise cancellation, as opposed to the 15-speaker setup of the more expensive versions, and the suspension system has coil springs and adaptive dampers. In other words, the ride height cannot be adjusted, as is the case with the Premium and Cyberbeast versions, which come with adaptive air suspension.

The base Cybetruck has the same powertrain as the Premium model, so it has the same 325-mile range estimate and 4.1-second time for the zero to 60 miles per hour sprint. However, the towing and payload capacities have been limited to 7,500 pounds and 2,006 lbs, whereas the Premium can tow 11,000 lbs and has a payload capacity of 2,500 lbs with the Cyber wheels.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the initial price of the cheapest Cybertruck would only last for 10 days, and that the price would increase depending on how much demand the company sees at $59,990.

This is not the first time Tesla has tried to lure in buyers with an affordable Cybertruck. Last year, a $69,990 rear-wheel drive version was introduced, featuring a single motor, 366 miles of range and an interior similar to the new dual-motor entry-level model. It only survived for five months, though.

In 2025, the Cybertruck had the biggest sales crash of all the new EVs in the United States. The polarizing truck sold nearly half the units compared to 2024, going from 39,000 to 20,200, according to Cox Automotive. That’s a 48% decrease and a far cry from Elon Musk’s estimate of 250,000 trucks per year.
