The first glimpse video of director Prashanth Neel’s Telugu action entertainer Dragon, starring NTR Jr and Rukmini Vasanth, was revealed at midnight to mark NTR Jr’s birthday. The video was more than a glimpse, offering insights into the world of the film produced by Mythri Movie Makers.
The period drama is set in Independent India, exploring a fictional story of the fight for control over the opium trade. The video opens with a voiceover stating that the British arrived in India drawn by trade opportunities in cotton, steel and spices. What prompted them to stay on and take control over the country was the lucrative drug trade, as poppy plantations thrived in Afghanistan and the Golden Triangle (portions of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand).
The story explores the opium wars in independent India, as the business was continued by the Afghan Trading Company and the Golden Trading Company. The video juxtaposes Biblical references of the creation of the world, with footage of how blood-thirsty men fought to gain control over the trade, leading to the rise of a Devil-like figure.
NTR Jr is introduced as Luger, assassin-in-chief of the Afghan Trading Company, a beast-like character who shows no remorse in striking down his opponents. Countering him is the character played by Anil Kapoor as Raghuveer Rathod, chief of narcotics bureau.
Written and directed by Prashanth Neel, Dragon has music by Ravi Basrur, cinematography by Bhuvan Gowda. The film also stars Biju Menon, Guru Somasundaram, Kusbhoo Sundar, Rajeev Kanakala and Ashutosh Rana.
Dragon is scheduled to release in multiple languages on June 11, 2027
