
Policeman stabbed at polling booth in Poompuhar constituency; ex-serviceman arrested

Polling in the Poompuhar Assembly constituency of Mayiladuthurai district was disrupted briefly on Thursday (April 23, 2026) after a head constable on election duty was stabbed by a man at a polling booth.
According to the police, the incident occurred at Booth No. 324 set up at Jamaliya Middle School in Poraiyar, where voting had been progressing briskly since 7 a.m. Officials said that by 11 a.m., around 36.65% of the electorate had cast their votes.
