ORR emerges as Chennai’s growth spine
Chennai’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) is fast emerging as a defining axis of the city’s next phase of growth, shaping conversations around expansion, infrastructure, and liveability. Against this backdrop, The Hindu is organising a focused discussion on May 6, 2026, at the Taj Coromandel, with Casagrand as sponsor. The event will feature two panel discussions: ‘Chennai’s Next Expansion: Why ORR Will Define It,’ and ‘The ORR Opportunity: Infrastructure, Liveability, and Long-Term Value’. Jerry Kingsley, India head, JLL research & city lead, capital markets Chennai; Sanjay Chugh, city head and director of Anarock; S. Janakarajan, former professor and currently South Asia consortium for interdisciplinary water resources studies and various other stakeholders will participate.
“It is a structural pivot in how the city will grow over the next decade,” said Chugh, noting that the corridor enables a more distributed, polycentric model by unlocking land for planned urbanisation. This transition from speculative growth to a more policy-led approach is echoed by Kingsley, who described the 62-km stretch as “the city’s next major economic and real estate growth axis,” linking key industrial clusters from Minjur to Vandalur under the guidance of the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
