Major news publishers such as CNBC, CNN, Fox News, have struck deals with prediction market platforms recently. While the platforms operate by betting on various topics, including sports, finance, science, and culture, the question of why they sign deals with news outlets looms large.

The two largest prediction market platforms, Polymarket and Kalshi, say that their media partnerships are a boon for journalism. However, the objective and the details of the deals remain unclear. “The world of finance depends on real-world outcomes, Kalshi predicts those outcomes,” said Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour after signing a deal with CNBC in December, 2025.
