“Not everything is supposed to make you comfortable,” Julia Roberts says in “After the Hunt.” But if that clip and the many others featured in the trailer for the 63rd New York Film Festival are any indication, some genuine cinematic riches will be on hand for the 2025 edition of the annual Film at Lincoln Center-hosted festival, taking place September 26 to October 13. And tickets are available now.
IndieWire is proud to debut the trailer for NYFF 2025 below. Aside from that Roberts soundbite from the Luca Guadagnino film, which opens the festival, clips here feature the expansive breadth of the festival’s offerings: 106 films from 41 countries spread out over 18 days, after all.
And so you’ve got a clip of art thief Josh O’Connor in Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind” protesting, “Mom, it’s real!” And a glimpse of Gloria Swanson’s face illuminated by candlelight in “Queen Kelly” — never forget how great NYFF is about showing restorations in its Revivals section (this scene is the one Swanson, as Norma Desmond, is watching on her projector some decades later in “Sunset Boulevard”). And a shot from the great “BLKNWS: Terms and Conditions,” of W.E.B. DuBois (Peter J. Fernandez) sitting in a car during the last stages of his life in Ghana. The Kahlil Joseph film premiered at Sundance earlier this year and was one of the most daring and experimental films at the festival.
That right there gives you a pretty good idea of the range of titles showing at NYFF this year. “After the Hunt” will be the opening night film on September 26, with Jim Jarmusch’s “Father Mother Sister Brother” as the Centerpiece selection, and Bradley Cooper’s “Is This Thing On?” as the closing night film. Scott Cooper’s “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” starring Jeremy Allen White as The Boss during the making of his album “Nebraska,” will be the Spotlight gala film.
As always, the festival will be centered around the venues at Lincoln Center, from Alice Tully Hall to the Elinor Bunin Monroe Film Center.
