The DS DS N°7 Is A Compact Electric Crossover With A Huge Battery

• DS has unveiled the replacement for its bestselling DS 7, and it comes in both pure-electric and hybrid variants.
• The longest-range model can go 460 miles on WLTP.
• It offers plenty of features for the class, including V2L, and has a starting price of €64,200 ($74,000).

You no longer have to buy a large electric vehicle to get a big battery with lots of range. In terms of size, the new DS N°7 sits between its key rivals, the BMW iX1 and iX3, and has a big 97.2-kilowatt-hour battery pack for its size, giving the front-wheel-drive version a WLTP range of 460 miles (740 km).

This variant has a single motor with 242 horsepower (276 hp when the temporary boost function is activated), and you can also get it with a smaller 73.7 kWh battery that still delivers an impressive 337 miles (543 km) of range. DS also offers a dual-motor all-wheel drive with 345 hp (370 hp with boost), available only with the large battery, and a range of 422 miles (679 km).

This most powerful variant accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in a claimed 5.4 seconds. The least powerful version of the N°7 is the 143 hp hybrid, which pairs a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with an electric motor offering what DS says are “the lowest CO2 emissions among its direct competitors.”

Helping the electric versions achieve their impressive range is the model’s low drag coefficient of 0.26, and DS says the long-range model can travel 280 miles (450 km) at highway speeds averaging 75 mph (120 km/h).

With such impressive range figures even for the standard-range model, getting the hybrid doesn’t make much sense unless you live in a remote area with no easy access to EV charging. The electric N°7 comes with an 11-kW charger as standard, which can optionally be upgraded to 22 kW.

Both batteries can charge at up to 160 kW, which DS says they can maintain between 20% and 55%. This allows them to add 118 miles (190 km) in 10 minutes of charging and go from 20% to 80% in 27 minutes (or 31 minutes for the smaller battery). These charging numbers are not class-leading, since the N°7 isn’t built on an 800-volt platform, but they’re still acceptable by today’s standards.

Design will likely matter a lot for the people who choose to buy the DS N°7. It looks unique and very luxurious inside and out. The design draws on the DS Aero Sport Lounge concept, which launched the brand’s current styling language (also seen on the N°4 and N°8 models), and you can get the interior in five ‘moods’, including one with blue Alcantara and brushed aluminum, which looks particularly fancy.

The N°7 replaces the brand’s bestselling model, the DS 7, which sold 14,000 units in 2025, down from 18,000 units in 2024. It’s slightly larger than its predecessor, and it can be equipped with large 21-inch wheels.

It features vehicle-to-load (V2L) bidirectional charging, a new infotainment system with ChatGPT integration, and you can even specify vents in the front seats to warm the back of your neck while driving with the windows down when it’s cold outside. None of this comes cheap, though, with a starting price of €64,200 ($74,000).
