
Quiet corners – The Hindu

The corner offers patterns others miss.

I did not choose the backbench. At least, that is what I told myself in the beginning.
Each academic year began with a quiet intention to sit somewhere in the middle of the classroom visible enough to matter, invisible enough to survive. Yet, by the second week, I would drift. Not abruptly. Not rebelliously. Just gradually until I found myself in the same place every year: the last row, seat by the wall, pressed into the corner where two pale green surfaces met at a right angle.
