As India seeks to spur uptake of nuclear-based power generation, state-owned National Thermal Power Corp Ltd (NTPC) informed it has inked a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with their French counterpart Électricité de France (EDF) to explore opportunities in India’s nuclear power space.
According to the statement announcing the move, the two state-owned entities would seek to establish a framework for jointly assessing “feasibility and approach for collaboration”. This would entail, among other things, assessment of EDF’s European Pressurised Reactor (EPR)’s suitability for Indian requirements, potential for maximising localisation and large-scale deployment, examining economic and tariff aspects alongside evaluating potential project sites.
