Narcotics case: YSRCP and Congress demand strict action against Eluru MP
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has demanded the suspension of Eluru Member of Parliament Putta Mahesh Kumar, who reportedly tested positive in narcotics test after a raid on a farmhouse on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
The party has also taken strong exception to the manner in which the TDP was trying to shield the accused.
Tirupati Member of Parliament M. Gurumoorthy, who spoke to the media along with party Tirupati constituency in-charge Bhumana Abhinay Reddy here on Sunday, reiterated that the TDP should take tangible action in this case.
“Elected representatives are expected to behave responsibly and set an example to society. The ruling party cannot shy away from sacking Mr. Mahesh as he is caught red-handed,” said Mr. Gurumoorthy.
Recalling the way the TDP had attempted to paint the YSRCP regime black, Mr. Abhinay Reddy said he expected strong action from the TDP leadership.
Meanwhile, APCC president Y.S. Sharmila strongly criticised Mr. Mahesh for his alleged involvement in the drugs case at Moinabad in Telangana.
“It is shameful that a sitting MP has been caught at a drug party even as Parliament sessions are going on,” she said, and sought to know what action Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would take against his party MP.
She demanded that Mr. Mahesh be immediately removed from the MP post and suspended from the party. “If the government is serious about taking strict action against drugs, Mr. Naidu must act against the MP and prove his sincerity,” she said.
