Kia’s cheapest EV looks like a baby Seltos [Video]

The EV2 is set to go on sale any day now as Kia’s most affordable electric car in Europe. Thanks to its upright, boxy design, it looks more like the Seltos SUV than an entry-level EV.

Kia EV2 set to go on sale as a mini electric Seltos

Kia unveiled the EV2 at the Brussels Motor Show in January, deeming it “a new entry point to electric mobility.” While official prices have yet to be revealed, the entry-level EV is expected to start at around €30,000 ($35,000).

The EV2 is just over 4,000 mm (160″) long, or smaller than the Volkswagen ID.3 and Chevy Bolt EV, but Kia promises it won’t feel so small when you’re in it.

Kia claims it has “one of the most impressive interiors” of any of its vehicles, with an open design, smart storage, and flexible seating.

Thanks to a flat floor design and boxy silhouette, the EV2 offers nearly as much rear passenger legroom as the Soul, with up to 858 mm.

According to Kia, it also sets a “benchmark” for Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) in the compact EV segment.

While EVs are naturally quieter and smoother since they don’t have a massive internal combustion engine, Kia took it to the next level with acoustic tires, glass doors, and a windscreen to minimize wind noise. The EV2 also features a dedicated sound package that includes a dash inner insulation concept, a frunk absorber, and an optimised underbody cover.

With the EV2 set to go on sale this spring, an uncovered model was captured on the road in South Korea, giving us our best look at Kia’s entry-level EV in action.

While it’s hard to tell in the new video from ShortsCar, the EV2 doesn’t look as small as it really is. The wide, SUV-like stance makes it look more like the Seltos or EV9 than an entry-level EV.

The EV2 is built at Kia’s Zilina plant in Slovakia, designed for European buyers. It will be available with two battery packs: 42.2 kWh and 61 kWh, which Kia estimates will offer “best-in-class” WLTP ranges of 197 miles (317 km) and 281 miles (453 km).

Kia has begun production of the standard-range EV2 with a 42.2 kWh battery. The long-range 61 kWh battery variant and EV2 GT-Line will go into production starting in June 2026.

We should learn prices and official WLTP range figures soon, with sales set to begin this spring.

For those in the US, don’t expect to see Kia’s entry-level EV sold here. The EV2 is built in and designed for Europe. Not to mention, Kia has already delayed several EVs indefinitely thanks to the Trump administration’s import tariffs and other policy changes.
