Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said ₹200 crore has been earmarked in the current year for development of seven domestic airports in the state. He said that has released ₹ 1,593 crore of grants for development of seven airports so far. He also said that the second airport for Bengaluru will be developed for which a feasibility report will be prepared after obtaining technical advice from Airports Authority of India (AAI).
“To decongest Kempegowda International Airport, which has emerged as the country’s third largest airport, a second airport will be developed in Bengaluru for which a feasibility report will be prepared after obtaining technical advice from Airports Authority of India (AAI),” the Chief Minister said.
He also announced setting up of a flight training school and manufacturing and assembly of aircraft units on PPP mode in the premises of Vijaypura and Shivamogga airports respectively.
Shivamogga Airport, which was inaugurated in February 2023, has been developed in 775 acres of land at Sogane village, near Shivamogga. The airport handles flights to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Goa and Tirupati. The work for the night landing facility is going on.
