
IATA head William Walsh named as new IndiGo CEO

The new appointment comes weeks after Pieter Elbers resigned as the CEO following large scale flight cancellations at the airline during November and December 2025 leading to over 5,000 flights affected. File.

The board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited, IndiGo’s parent company, on Tuesday (March 31, 2026) announced the appointment of William Walsh as Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approvals.
Mr. Walsh, currently Director General of global airline’s body International Air Transport Association, will complete his tenure at the industry body on July 31, 2026, and is expected to assume charge at IndiGo by August 3, 2026.
Mr. Walsh has previously served as CEO of British Airways and International Airlines Group, which owns airlines including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling.
