Haris Rauf irked by chants of ‘Kohli Kohli’ after fight with Gill-Abhishek

Two sixes by Virat Kohli. That’s how Haris Rauf will be remembered by a vast majority of cricket fans. Although October 22, 2022 will be remembered for Kohli’s exploits at the MCG, Haris will also be forever attached to it. It was, in fact, against him that Kohli struck that ‘shot of an emperor’ and achieved what can be described as one of the greatest heists in cricket history.

Since that moment, everywhere the fast bowler has gone, he gets asked about that shot or innings. Some ask him to describe what Kohli did that day. Unfortunately, it’s stuck like white on rice. And there’s no running away from it. Chants of Kohli’s name are also used to mock him by many Indian cricket team supporters.

And that’s happened in the India vs Pakistan match in the 2025 Asia Cup. While the first game was fine, the players seemed charged up during the Super Four encounter. Shaheen Afridi and Haris seemed adamant to pick up a fight with Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill.

They succeeded in doing so. But it didn’t go in their favour. They went on to score 105 runs in just 9.5 overs and made the 172-run chase look like a piece of cake. But during all of this, Haris had an altercation with both of them. Flowery words were used by both sides.

But the Indian supporters were having none of it, just like Gill and Abhisek. The moment Haris was sent to the boundary, fans from the upper decks started chanting ‘Kohli Kohli Kohli’ to mock the fast bowler. Haris wasn’t just able to hear but was irked. He signalled to his ear, as if telling them whatever they said didn’t affect him at all.
