War and the Indian kitchen
The increase in domestic cooking gas prices (Front page, March 8) is a cause for concern.
It is unclear how long this unwanted war in West Asia is going to stretch and how far domestic gas prices are going to go up.
Even though solar cooking technology is well-known, solar cookers are not readily available in the market at affordable prices.
The Centre and State governments need to initiate measures, including providing subsidies, to make solar cooking a viable option for households. This move will at least insulate a section of vulnerable families across India from cooking fuel price hikes in the future.
