The Public Works Department and the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have commenced concreting the Kankanady bypass road work between Karavali Junction and Bhagwan Mahaveer (Pumpwell) Circle in the City.
With the Mangaluru City Traffic Police declaring one of the two carriageways of the Bypass Road as one-way from Karavali Junction to Mahaveera Circle for outgoing traffic and Kankanady Old Road as one-way for the incoming traffic from Monday, the agencies concerned, the PWD and the MCC, have commenced their works.
The City Corporation on Monday itself laid a fresh coat of bitumen cover on the existing carriageway of the Bypass Road from Karavali Junction to Pumpwell Circle to ensure smooth flow of vehicles. At the same time, the PWD filled soil to cover the deep edges of the concrete road of Kankanady Old Road to prevent vehicles, particularly two-wheelers, from losing balance at the edges.

The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has been working on shifting the underground drainage (UGD) line to the road flank to facilitate concreting of Kankanady Bypass Road between Karavali Junction and Bhagwan Mahaveer (Pumpwell) Circle near Karavali Junction on Friday, in Mangaluru.

As the MCC had already shifted the UGD lines near Pumpwell Circle sometime ago, the PWD began scrapping the existing road surface to prepare it for laying the concrete. The Corporation has commenced UGD line shifting work near Karavali Junction from Thursday.
