Government to launch upgraded scheme to promote girls’ education in April: Delhi CM Gupta

The Delhi Government will restructure an existing initiative aimed at promoting the education of girls from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and provide increased financial support of ₹56,000 per beneficiary in a phased manner starting in April, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Tuesday (February 10, 2026).
The ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’, which replaces the 2008 ‘Delhi Ladli Scheme’, will support girls from birth to graduation, said the Chief Minister.
“This scheme, which is very close to my heart, will ensure that every daughter gets an opportunity to fulfil her potential. This is our investment in the future of our girls,” she said.
Ms. Gupta said when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in Delhi, it found that more than 1.86 lakh dormant accounts with a total of ₹190 crore were unclaimed under the Ladli scheme.
“In 2025, 30,000 such beneficiaries were identified, and an amount of ₹90 crore was disbursed to them. We have identified 41,000 more beneficiaries, and an amount of ₹100 crore will be released to them soon,” she said.
Phased transfers
Ms. Gupta said that funds will be transferred to the beneficiaries’ Aadhaar-linked accounts in a phased manner and that the total assistance will, on maturity, add up to over ₹1 lakh with interest, which could be claimed once the beneficiary has passed Class 12 at the age of 18 or completed her graduation or diploma at 21.
The Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana will cover two Delhi-born girls per family living in the city for at least three years, with an annual family income not exceeding ₹1.20 lakh.
The CM said the government will deposit ₹11,000 at the birth of a girl child and ₹20,000 in phases on completion of a degree or diploma. Sums of ₹5,000 will be transferred on admission to Classes 1, 6, 9, 10 and 12. Beneficiaries can be registered at any of these stages.
The Delhi Ladli Scheme provided total financial assistance of up to ₹36,000 to girls for their education up to the senior-secondary level, with family income not exceeding ₹1 lakh.
The Government has expanded the scope of the 2008 scheme to cover girls pursuing graduation or professional diploma courses at government-recognised institutions across India, including University Grants Commission-affiliated universities and colleges, as well as those affiliated with other statutory bodies.
Ms. Gupta said that the process, from application to payment, will be completely online, eliminating the need to visit government offices.
