‘D55’: Mammootty to star alongside Dhanush in Rajkumar Periasamy’s film

The casting coup of D55 is defying all expectations! Malayalam superstar Mammootty has joined the cast of Tamil star Dhanush’s upcoming film with Amaran-maker Rajkumar Periasamy, the makers announced on Wednesday (February 4).

Wunderbar Films, Dhanush’s production banner, announced the news on X by sharing pictures of Rajkumar and producer Sreyas welcoming the Kalamkaval-star to the project.

Notably, this comes just days after the makers announced that actor Sai Pallavi has joined the cast of the film, marking a reunion between the ‘Rowdy Baby’ duo after Maari 2.

Also starring Parasakthi-star Sreeleela, D55 has music scored by Sai Abhyankkar. The film is produced by Wunderbar Films and RTake Studios.

The news has been met with celebration by fans of the veteran, whose films, such as Bheeshma Parvam, Rorschach, Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam, Kannur Squad, Kaathal – The Core, Bramayugam, and Kalamkaval, were celebrated by Tamil audiences.

The upcoming film also marks the veteran superstar’s return to Tamil cinema after seven long years. Last seen in Tamil in Peranbu, the actor has starred in over 15 Tamil films in his career, including superhits such as Makkal Aatchi,Kandukondain Kandukondain, Aanandham, and Thalapathi

In Malayalam, the actor was last seen in the serial killer film Kalamkaval and ina cameo appearance in Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies, starring Arjun Ashokan and Roshan Mathew. Up next, he has Patriot, co-starring Mohanlal, a film with Nithish Sahadev, and Padayaatra, directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan among other projects in the line-up.
