Gurgaon MP seeks funds for Aravali conservation, waste management and metro corridor in Haryana budget

Ahead of the Budget Session of Haryana Assembly slated later this month, Union Minister of State for Planning and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh has written to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini seeking budget allocation for his Lok Sabha constituency including the removal of garbage heaps at Bandhwari landfill site, Aravali conservation and metro corridor along the Dwarka Expressway.

In a five-page letter, Mr. Singh said due to the negligence of the garbage collection agencies, the groundwater of around half-a-dozen villages near the Bandhwari landfill site had become contaminated leading to a serious health crisis even as the mountains of garbage were growing with each passing day. He urged the State government to develop a plan to remove these heaps of garbage and make budgetary provisions towards it.

Rewari, Sohna and Pataudi, too, were facing similar issue and special budgetary provisions must be made for all districts to tackle the menace of solid municipal waste, he said, adding that around 2,000 tonnes of waste from Gurugram and Faridabad municipal areas was being dumped in Aravalis on a daily basis.

‘Lifeline of Haryana’

He also demanded funds for the conservation of Aravalis to allay people’s concerns about the safety of the mountain range, which he described as the “lifeline of Haryana”. “The Aravali has already been significantly damaged through mining. Many people and builders have their eyes set on the mountain range,” read the letter.

Stressing upon the need for expanding public transportation in Gurugram, terming it the “country’s economic capital”, Mr. Singh sought budgetary provisions for a metro corridor along the Dwarka Expressway.

Besides, he put forth demand for a Sainik Sadan in Rewari, encompassing a welfare board and treatment facilities for ex-servicemen, adding that demands of Panchayati Raj institution representatives be also met to strengthen the democracy at grass-roots level.
