A24 has released the first full trailer for The Drama, an upcoming romantic comedy-drama written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli that stars Zendaya and Robert Pattinson as an engaged couple whose wedding plans begin to fracture after a shocking personal revelation. The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 3, 2026, following an unusual and carefully staged promotional rollout that has already sparked widespread discussion.
The trailer introduces Emma Harwood, played by Zendaya, a bookstore clerk from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Charlie Thompson, portrayed by Pattinson, a British museum director living in the United States. The two appear deeply in love and on the verge of a storybook future as they prepare for their wedding. That tone shifts dramatically when a seemingly casual dinner conversation with friends opens the door to an unsettling truth. The trailer withholds the details, but the immediate aftermath suggests that the revelation is serious enough to destabilise the relationship entirely.
The Drama marks Borgli’s follow-up to Dream Scenario, the 2023 film that starred Nicolas Cage and explored the unsettling consequences of unwanted attention and social judgment. As with that film, Borgli appears to blend satire with psychological discomfort. The supporting cast includes Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates, and Zoë Winters, who appears as a wedding photographer observing the unraveling situation from the margins.

The film’s marketing campaign began months earlier with an unconventional move by A24, which placed a mock engagement announcement in The Boston Globe beside its long-running “Love Letters” advice column. That announcement revealed the characters’ names and hinted at the central conflict, blurring the line between fiction and real-world romance coverage. A teaser trailer followed shortly afterward, setting the stage for the more revealing footage now released.
Produced by Ari Aster, The Drama continues A24’s pattern of backing character-driven films that challenge genre expectations. In 2026, Zendaya and Robert Pattinson share an unusually busy slate together, starring not only in The Drama (April 3) but also in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (July 17) and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three (December 18).
