‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ trailer: Meryl Streep’s sassy Miranda Priestly reunites with “one of her Emilys”

20th Century Studios on Monday (February 1) unveiled the trailer of The Devil Wears Prada 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 fashion-world comedy that became a modern classic. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci reprise their characters in the film, which is all set to release in theatres on May 1.

The 90-second trailer takes us back to the Runway Magazine office, where Anne’s Andrea Sachs returns to surprise Meryl’s Miranda Priestly, only for the editor-in-chief to not recollect her former assistant, or as Tucci’s Nigel puts it, was “one of her Emilys.” And of course, the real Emily, played by Blunt, makes a grand entry as the head of a global luxury brand.

According to Variety, the sequel will follow Priestly as she deals with the decline of print journalism and attempts to find her footing in a dying industry. “Priestly finds herself facing off against Emily Blunt’s character, her former assistant who is now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising money that Priestly desperately needs,” reads the logline.

Writer Aline Brosh McKenna returns to pen the sequel, along with director David Frankel. Joining the returning cast are a host of new entrants, including Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, Patrick Brammall, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak and Conrad Ricamora. Lady Gaga and Sydney Sweeney are also set to make cameo appearances.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is produced by Wendy Finerman, and executive produced by Michael Bederman, Karen Rosenfelt and McKenna.

The original The Devil Wears Prada, based on Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling novel, earned more than $326 million worldwide and an Oscar nomination for Streep.
