The makers of Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli and starring Mahesh Babu, have announced the release date of the magnum opus movie. Also starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the pan-Indian movie is bankrolled by SS Durga Arts and Showing Business.
The film, which marks the maiden collaboration of Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu, will hit the screens on April 07, 2027. The makers announced the development with a new poster. The poster shows a meteor slamming into Earth, hinting at an apocalyptic situation.

Billed as a “globetrotter’, the movie is touted to blend a cosmic disaster with ancient Indian mythology. In the first glimpse from the movie, released on November 16, 2025, Mahesh Babu’s character was seen riding a mechanical white bull. The glimpse mirrored the actor’s ferocious on-screen first look as a blood-streaked warrior wielding a trident.
Rajamouli has revealed that one major sequence is inspired by “an important episode from the Ramayana.” The filmmaker said he never expected to tackle such material so soon. “While writing every scene and every dialogue, I felt like I was floating,” he told fans, adding that the 60-day shoot for the sequence was among the most challenging of his career.
Prithviraj plays the antagonist, named Kumbha while Priyanka plays a character called Mandakini. The first-look posters of both the actors from Varanasi have created enough buzz for the movie. The movie is filmed for IMAX exhibition.
