The Maharashtra Government on Monday (April 6, 2026) said that 70% supply of commercial LPG is currently available in the State. A joint press briefing by the oil marketing companies and various departments of the State Government was held on Monday at the State secretariat to address the fuel supply situation across the State.
The Government said that by June 30, PNG will be made mandatory in all districts where the PNG pipeline has been laid. Officials said that PNG pipelines had reached 22 districts.
“We are importing 60% of our LPG requirement. So the effort is to replace it with PNG wherever possible,” the Government official said.
The shortage of LPG cylinders has hit migrant labourers. The Government said that efforts were being made to hand out 5 kg and 7 kg cylinders to migrant labourers. “There is no shortage of LPG supply for migrant workers, and their requirements are being adequately met,” the Government said.
The State Government claimed that there was an adequate supply of fertilisers, adding that 65 to 70% of fertilisers would be made available before the Kharif season.
Petrol, diesel available
Speaking on the availability of petrol and diesel, Additional Chief Secretary Anil Diggikar said that there was no adverse impact on its supply. “Last week, the lines seen on petrol pumps were due to panic buying. That is not the case anymore,” he said, adding that the supply of domestic LPG was being streamlined too.
When asked about the disruption in the supply of LPG cylinders and the long waiting period, including the problems due to illegal hoarding, the offiicals could not give effective answers.
“The Government authorities have confirmed that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or domestic LPG, and supply systems are functioning smoothly. The State’s distribution network, supported by multiple LPG bottling plants and coordinated logistics, continues to meet consumer demand without disruption,” a press note issued later stated.
The officials wrapped up the press conference when angry questions about disruptions of LPG supply persisted.
The Government said it was restoring commercial LPG supply in a phased manner.
“Maharashtra is currently supported by 23 LPG plants, catering to approximately 3.5 crore consumers. The supply of domestic LPG remains stable, with no reduction observed in cylinder availability. Earlier, the average daily supply stood at approximately 5.9 lakh cylinders, and it is currently being maintained at around 5.8 lakh cylinders, indicating no significant disruption. The Central Government has allocated 3,744 kl of kerosene to the State Government. The said kerosene is being distributed district-wise,” a press note stated.
